Wow! What a summer we’ve had so far in Toronto! August has arrived and with it comes another great line-up of festival fun and great community events. Take a look at what’s in store this month in the Big Smoke!
Taste of the Danforth – August 7 – 9
This popular festival drew crowds of over one million people last year! From authentic Greek cuisine to Thai, Indian and Cuban fare, this street festival in the heart of Toronto’s Greektown celebrates its 21st year in 2015. There will also be lots of family-friendly activities at different stages across the Danforth.
Live Green Toronto Festival – August 8
The Live Green Toronto Festival is a free event celebrating living an environmentally friendly lifestyle, with food, performances, “green” products, and more. It features live performances in the Yonge-Dundas Square, a TD Kids’ Zone, green activities and demonstrations, as well as delicious local and organically grown foods.
Toronto Vegan Food and Drink Festival – August 8
Head to Fort York for meatless-burgers and dairy-free ice cream, plus many more foods created for vegans and the vegan-curious. Get a taste of longstanding favourites of the carnivorous, such as tacos, pizza, and even barbecue. When you’re done stuffing your face, you can enjoy the music of the BackTrack Band, Midnight Lemonade, Hot Apollo, and many more.
York-Eglinton International Street Festival – August 15 -16
This family event aims to celebrate Toronto’s diversity. The festival will feature entertainment and cuisine from the Caribbean, Italian, Portuguese, and Latin communities and many other ethnic cultures, plus live music performances, dance lessons and a midway. The festival runs along Eglinton Ave. West from Marlee Ave. to Dufferin St.
Chinatown Festival – August 22 – 23
The annual celebration of Chinatown features dragon dances, lanterns, tree planting and burning incense. There is also a smorgasbord of street food, including delicacies from China, the Philippines, Japan, Greece, Malaysia, the Caribbean and more.
Toronto Burlesque Festival – August 27
The 8th Annual Toronto Burlesque Festival is at the Mod Club this summer. Alongside nightly performances, the festival also offers workshops through “Burlesque University.” This year’s headliners are Dirty Martini, Jett Adore, Bazuka Joe, and Natasha Estrada.
