This year marks the fifth anniversary of the International Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration held in the stunning vineyards of the Niagara Wine Region.
What first began as a celebratory toast on a warm summer’s night in 2009 has now grown to one of Niagara’s favourite summer wine celebrations.
It was only six years ago Niagara winemakers were sitting around a campfire celebrating the exciting and unexpected win of having their chardonnay place first at the 2009 Cellier Wine Awards. A prestigious award, this Canadian Chardonnay had claimed first place over the world renowned Burgundian and California Chardonnays. This incredible win further establishes the wineries of the Niagara Region on the world stage and is the inspiration for this yearly celebration.
Dedicated to the bold, beautiful flavours of Chardonnay, the Niagara Wine Region is excited to once again welcome over 2000 wine enthusiasts from around the world to their celebration held this summer from July 17 to 19. Guests will include distinguished winemakers, members of the media and sommeliers from across Canada, all eager to sip and savour cool climate chardonnays.
Set among the stunning Niagara vineyards, this annual festival has welcomed more than 135 wineries from 36 cool climate wine regions, and sampled more than 550 different glasses of chardonnay.
This year’s celebration will feature a weekend of exceptional dining, wine tasting and entertainment as featured wineries, hotels and colleges invite all to attend the celebration. Enjoy a beautiful afternoon sipping a glass of your favourite Chardonnay at the recently named “Winery of the Year” Peller Estates for their Chardonnay Summer BBQ, or learn the delicate art of winemaking as Inniskillin Winery will present Chardonnay Through the Ages. Those who want to relax among the stunning grounds of Trius Winery at Hillebrand are invited to the luncheon of the summer, Sabre and Savour.
Be sure to enjoy this weekend of incredible events as you raise your chilled glass in celebration to the beautiful Chardonnays created in your own backyard.
